We landed in Seattle at 8:30am, where the cold and wet weather welcomed us with open arms. Being from San Francisco, I've always felt at home in a chilly, overcast city. This is my first time in Seattle and I'm so excited to see what adventures this city has to offer me!
Right after we landed, the first thing we immediately needed was food...unfortunately, not all of us were in town yet, so we weren't able to get any until about 2pm. When we were finally all together, and able to fill our empty stomachs, we headed straight for the pier, where we hit up Ivar's Fish Bar to satisfy our fish n' chips cravings. We also made some seagull friends! We wandered around some more and took advantage of the aesthetically pleasing sights, and of course did some souvenir shopping. Soon enough, we all walked out of the store in matching Seattle hats.
With our bellies full, our next stop was the Gum Wall! This was definitely one of the sites that I HAD to see. Lots of stairs and hills later and we made it! We had to take as many cheesy pictures as we could, this is where the matching Seattle hats came in. We had to go all out tourist! Who knew that pre-chewed gum could be such an interesting attraction?
We eventually made our way through Downtown Seattle and Capitol Hill, which continued to aesthetically please my eyes. Next thing I know, we turn into Potbelly, where we try almost every shake they had on the menu...it was totally worth it though. Walking through the ins and outs of the Seattle streets, I was constantly amazed at some of these views; I was in LOVE.
Finally, we made it to Pike's Place. We took in more sights and views and were in search of an amazing coffee joint. After searching and getting lost in the twists and turns of Pikes Place Market, we found Storyville Coffee, and I kid you not, they probably served some of the best coffee I've ever had. At this point, its already after 6:00pm and most shops are already closed and we're all getting hungry. Since a couple of our friends were only staying with us for the night, we let them make the call. All I knew was that I NEEDED some fresh oysters in my life right at that moment, so they decided that we all go to The Athenian Seafood Restaurant and Bar for happy hour, and man, was that a good happy hour. I was able to satisfy my immense craving for some oysters, which were delicious by the way.
After a drink or so, we made it back to our Airbnb and we finally got in some rest. Later on that night, we made a quick stop to Dick's Drive-In to see what all the hype was about. Other than it being freezing outside, it was pretty good. We then went to Pine Box, a bar that was converted from a morgue! It was simultaneously very cool and creepy. We originally went for some late night snacks, just to find out that the kitchen was closed...boo. It was still a cool experience nonetheless.
All in all, it was a very successful first day in Seattle. I was up for a good 24 hours, but every moment awake was completely worth it. I'll see you again for Day 2!
